Child Psychology

This course is an introduction to research in the study of child development, from conception to the onset of adolescence. The basic concepts and theories of child development, in the areas of perception, cognition, social interactions, affective, and moral development are covered.

The major goals of the course are to:

 

(1)

make you familiar with normal processes of child development

(2)

acquaint you with some of the basic concepts and research methods that are used in the study of child development

(3)

give you an overview of current theories about children's development, as well as to discuss the relations between theories, empirical research strategies, and research results

(4)

discuss cultural perceptions of child development

The goals of the course are accomplished through lectures, discussions, readings, and films.
