Cathleen L. Smith, Ph.D., Professor, Developmental Psychology
Biography
Dr. Smith received her Ph.D. from the University of Utah in 1976. She is a developmental psychologist with research interests in moral and prosocial
development across the lifespan. Her current research is a longitudinal study of prosocial and self-regulatory development in infants and toddlers. Dr. Smith was co-chair of the Student Advising Action Council, a group
that formulated a plan to improve academic advising at Portland State
University as part of President Bernstines Advising Initiative. With Janine Allen in the School of Education, she currently conducts research that examines the student experience of advising and the impact of advising
on student outcomes, including retention. Dr. Smith is co-founder and former director of the Child and Family Studies program at Portland State University.
