Application to a Graduate Program

Application may be made to either the doctoral (Ph.D. in Applied Psychology) or the terminal master's degree (M.A. or M.S. in psychology) programs. Applicants to either program are expected to have had preparation in research methods and statistics. Occasionally, strong applicants are admitted conditionally upon completion of these required prerequisites.
In general, admitted applicants have at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA and have scored over 1100 on two sections of the GRE (verbal and quantitative or verbal and analytic).

Admission to any graduate program within the Department of Psychology is a multi-step process for both Master's and Doctorate programs. Those interested in the Master's and doctorate program must go through a two-step process.
Admitted students automatically become members of the Psychology Graduate Student Association (PGSA), an active association working toward integration of faculty, graduate students, and members of the Psi Chi chapter at Portland State University.

Prospective applicants should note that the graduate program in Psychology does not provide training or offer degrees in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.

Completed applications must be postmarked by December 15th for admission the following academic year.
