Area description and Program goals

Applied Social & Community psychology is concerned with practical questions of how individuals’ thoughts, feelings, and actions are influenced by other people and by social institutions. Topics focused on at Portland State University include, but are not limited to Socialization Processes, Self, Social Relationships and Social Roles, Health Psychology, Sociocultural Psychology, Community Psychology & Prevention, Gender and Sexuality, Methods of Social Change and Intervention, & Ethics.
