To earn a minor in psychology a student must complete 28 credits (8 credits must be taken in residence at PSU), to include the following: Psy 200, 204 (8 credits), 20 credits in 300-level psychology courses (excluding
399).
Application Procedures
To earn a major or a minor in psychology, the student must be admitted to Portland State University. University guidelines for admission to PSU can be found at the Office of Admissions.
Preparing for Graduate School in Psychology
Students considering graduate work in psychology should be especially well prepared in statistics and research methodology and are strongly encouraged to take Experimental Psychology (Psy 454). They are encouraged to develop breadth by pursuing interests in diverse fields outside of psychology before beginning the greater specialization of graduate work. If considering graduate work in psychology, the following suggestions
and resources may be helpful:
- Participate in research with a faculty member
- Inquire about current research being conducted by faculty in your area of interest
- Become a member of Psi Chi
- Begin researching graduate programs no later than your junior year
- Visit the following sites to start searching for information:
